WELCOME! You found me! And if your heart is aching for a place that talks about how wonderful Hallmark’s “When Calls the Heart” is, and you’re hooked to it, (or if you’re merely curious,)  YOU ARE HERE!

Allow me to introduce myself: Kami Clements, bona fide, (certified if it was possible,) and VERY hooked Heartie!  I’m a hopeless romantic who loves to act and sing, so getting a guest spot on this show would be a dream come true!  I’m from the Austin area of Texas, USA. I’ve been married almost ten years to a certain William Lee Clements, (who has two WCTH character names, but he won’t admit it!) I have 3 kids, and I’m currently pregnant.  It’s a boy, and his name will be…drum roooolllll! JACK!!!

Grown up now

I found this charming series when I was pregnant with my 1-year-old son, named after my husband; (therefore, he has a Heartie name too!) Commercials for Season 3 were airing, but I didn’t want to get involved in another show. HA HA! Then when morning sickness was keeping me down, I stumbled across it on Netflix. “What the heck?” I thought. “Give it a shot.” One episode led to two, then three. And I was…well, hooked! Thanks to pregnancy insomnia, I sped through Seasons 1 and 2 in record time! I watched the first 2 episodes of Season 3 on Demand, then I was current; and I have been ever since.

If you’re new to the show, or if you’ve never seen it, I bet I know what you’re thinking: what is this series, and why are you so hooked on it? Fair question. To quote a favorite movie of mine: “Let me explain…no, there is too much. Let me sum up,” (Princess Bride). “When Calls the Heart” is a romantic, fictional, period drama that runs on the Hallmark Channel. It’s the perfect blend of the shows “Christy” and “Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman” with the family morals of “Little House on the Prairie”. It begins in Canada in 1910 with a very wealthy young woman named Elizabeth Thatcher taking a teaching post in a poor coal mining town out West. A new Mountie Constable named Jack Thornton arrives about the same time…and you’ll have to watch the show if you want to find out more.

My two girls with their bear Heartie

WHY do I like it? Gosh, how do I explain that? One big reason is because it’s clean. In the 4 seasons that have aired, I’ve heard maybe 3 or 4 swear words. Nobody’s sleeping around, and the violence is minimal. Being a hopeless romantic and former theater major, I’m picky about chemistry. I find many screen couples to be either too stiff, or too lustful. This screen couple is neither! They have a beautiful relationship! The actors are uncanny at conveying passion without getting dirty. My heart just starts pounding at the sight of them kissing! Daniel Lissing, especially, is fantastic at acting with his eyes. The love shining from them every time he looks at Erin Krakow is so complete that he’s got tons of fans convinced they’re in a real-life relationship. The fans sure wouldn’t mind, I’ll tell you that!

Well, I think that’ll do for now.  Until Wednesday, my darling fellow Hooked Hearties! To sign off, here’s a picture of some paraphernalia I’ve collected. And I owe a debt of gratitude to Elliott Wallach, Nancy White, Julie Nugent, and Patti Landers for making my collection possible.
