Helllllooooo, Hearties! And a very warm welcome to Back to School Week here at hookedheartie.com! This is a big week for us here in the Austin, TX area. As of Thursday, I’ll have a 2nd grader on my hands, and that 2nd grader is starting the year at a new school. She’s only been to half-day school up to this point, so she’s a little nervous, but she’s really excited about getting lunch time and recess.

So in honor of the run on school supplies in every major store, the masses of people making the pilgrimage to classrooms everywhere, and all those commercials pushing products teachers desperately need, we’re celebrating a few people and stories about education. Step one: #MeetYouMonday starring Shannon Rolfe, a teacher. I happen to personally know that she’s a great one too. She taught several kids that I’ve had in Sunday School; plus she’s a great friend of the family. So cheers to her, and take it away, Shannon!

1. Where are you from? If you’re living elsewhere, where are you living now?

*That’s an interesting question. I grew up as an Air Force brat so we lived everywhere! However, I consider my grandparent’s ranch on the Montana/Alberta, Canada border home. Currently, I live in a suburb of Austin, TX.

2. Tell us about your family.
*The only kids I have are my students. This year I’ll have nearly 100! However, I come from a large family. I am the oldest of a blended family of 10 kids—five girls and five boys.

3. What do you do for a living? What are your hobbies? What are you studying/did you study in school?
*I teach middle school English/Language Arts. I spend most of my free time reading Young Adult fiction but I also enjoy painting, singing, drama, and I’m adequate at playing the piano. I am also in a Masters program in Curriculum and Instruction. (She’s much more than adequate, take it from me.)

4. How did you find/discover WCTH?
*I discovered WCTH the summer after season one. I found it on Netflix. When I saw my Canadian prairies and mountains, I was hooked!

5. What is your favorite episode? Season?
*My favorite episode is the proposal episode—it was so romantic! My favorite season is the second.

6. Who is your favorite character? Star of the show?
*My favorite character is Opal—I just love her! My favorite star is Paul Greene—shout out to my Alberta boy!

7. Why are you a Heartie? Why do you love the show?
*I’m a Heartie because I love the wholesome values and the way love and marriage is portrayed in the show. In today’s world, it gives me hope that family values and true love is still celebrated.

8. Anything else you enjoy, or anything you’d like to add?
*I’m just grateful for Hearties around the globe that have created such momentum for WCTH! We are a force for good!

That we are, my friend! Thanks, Shannon! She’s at work even as we speak getting her classroom ready for those eager young minds…cough, cough.

I hope this gets your week off to a roaring start. Take care of yourselves! This is Hooked Heartie, signing off. May your heart let your hope blossom!

Good morning! At least it’s still morning in Texas. Happy August!  It’s a REALLY good month to be born in. 😉  Well, guess what, Hearties! We’ve got ANOTHER historic post on our hands! For the first time ever, there is a MAN being spotlighted on this, a “When Calls the Heart” blog! Did you ever think you’d see the day?! I know there are “plenty” of men (cough, cough) who are fans of this wonderful series, but I didn’t think they would confess to it in a public blog. 😀 Funny story how this one came about:

You can probably tell from the last name that said man is my brother-in-law. If you read the blog on Friday, you’ll remember I had a family reunion this past weekend. Oh, it was a blast! But anyway, my husband’s family members are all on Marco Polo, so we created a family group chat. When I interviewed my husband’s sister a few weeks ago, I put a message up on Marco Polo to let everyone know when it had been posted. I said, “Everyone needs to go to my blog because there’s a very special person spotlighted today.” So Mr. Witty Seth comes on and says, “Kami! Did you write about me? That’s so sweet!” So I called him out on it, and challenged, “You are MORE than welcome to be my next spotlight. Do you dare?” He picked up the gauntlet, and said, “Why not?” The guy actually DOES watch the show, (his older brother could take a few lessons from him!) so we took advantage of the family reunion to chat about him. So without further ado, I give you the my dear, and very brave brother-in-law, Seth Clements.

1. Where are you from? If you’re living elsewhere, where are you living now?
I am from Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas. I just moved from Rexburg, ID to Cedar Creek, TX .

2. Tell us about your family.
I’ve been married for 5 years this September. We have one ginormous baby boy who’s 9 months. (He really is!  He’s only a pound or two smaller than MY 2-year-old!)  He just started crawling, which makes for a whole new world. We are a trilingual family.  My wife is from Belgium, so we speak French, Spanish, and English. I’m the middle of 7, which means I’m the most well rounded child.  We are a laughing family.  We lived a lot in the country, so family were my best friends, I want that for my family.  And I have an amazing sister-in-law!  (Yeah, he said that under duress! 😉 )

3. What do you do for a living? What are your hobbies? What are you studying/did you study in school?
I just graduated from BYU-Idaho (BEST COLLEGE EVER!) with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering.  I work as a manufacturing engineer for Applied Materials. The machines we make made something in your devices.  (Show off!)

4. How did you find/discover WCTH?
My sister Michelle was telling Mom about this AMAZING show. She’s a wise judge, so against wishes of my wife, we started to watch.  I had to convince HER! But she got hooked, and I watched with her.

5. What is your favorite episode? Season?
My favorite episode is the one in the mine, but I do NOT like Season 2 as a whole.  I’d say Season 3 is my favorite.

6. Who is your favorite character? Star of the show?
Charater: Lee. (just like his brother).  He’s a wonderful husband, very patient, and he loves her for who she is, not in spite of it. Star: Lori Loughlin.  She plays Abigail well, seems very sincere.

7. Why are you a Heartie? Why do you love the show?
I don’t know if I can say I’m a “Heartie”, I enjoy keeping my man card. But I like the show because I enjoy a good wholesome laugh.

8. Anything else you enjoy, or anything you’d like to add?
The koala who believes he is on top of the tree will never eat the highest leaves. Also “Let it Go”. (Yeah, he’s weird.  May I add that when he mentiuoned “Let it Go”, it was with an very entertaining interpretive dance.  Sadly, no video!)

Thank you, Seth.  You were very sweet to do this!  You’re the man…literally.  So, Hearties, what do you think?  Do we keep him?  Well after you see the picture of him with my son Jack, you’ll really want to!  Have a great week this week.  And yes, I’ll be back on Wednesday.  What’s the topic?  I guess you’ll have to find out!  Hooked Heartie, signing off!

Good afternoon, Hearties! How was your weekend? Mine was nutty! My entire family, (except Jack, of course,) got haircuts, then we got my oldest’s school supplies, then went to the library, then went home to do more of that laundry I spoke about on Wednesday…and that was just Saturday! 😀

I bet several of you are in the same boat, with the first day of school looming closer and closer. In fact, we’re going to get to know someone today who IS in that boat.

And guess what! I actually KNOW this person, and she’s not a member of my family! GASP! In fact, other than some of those family members, this lady’s known me longer than anyone spotlighted on here! She’s ashamed to admit association, but I’m letting the cat out of the bag! Only kidding, Linds! Lindsey Cox re tty special! We had plans to be roommates the next year, but SHE had to go and get MARRIED…to a great guy named Quinn of whom I highly approved; I even helped him propose! 🙂

So we both moved on with our lives, and lost track of each other. Thanks to social media, we found one another a few years ago, and totally reconnected! It was as if no time had passed at all! Then when I started the blog, Lindsey commented on one of my first posts, and that’s how I found out she’s a Heartie. Always knew I liked her! Then to make things better, she filled in a suddenly vacant spot on my Camp Hearties team (a virtual scavenger hunt summer camp for fans,) and our team went on to win! Shout out to Sarah for being the best captain EVER since the rest of us had absolutely no idea what we were doing!

I better let Lindsey tell you the rest about herself, or she’ll probably never speak to me again! You’re up, girlfriend!

1. Where are you from?
I was born in Oakland, California, but have lived kind of everywhere. My dad was in the military, and enjoyed moving around. My married life has been similar to my childhood, as we have lived in many places as well. We now call Washington our permanent home! It’s beautiful, and I get the best of everything: ocean, mountains, and lots of greenery.

2. Tell us about your family.
I love to talk about my family. I married my college sweetheart, Quinn. We’ve been married now for 14 years…sheesh, I’m getting old! Together we four beautiful children: 3 boys and a girl mixed in the middle. We have so many fun adventures together like dance parties, hiking, exploring new places, and making life fun. It’s crazy at times, but we love it!

3a. What are your hobbies?
I like to be creative, and turn old things into something new. My motto is, “A little sand and paint can fix anything!” I love to take pictures! It’s one of my passions. I also love to cook and bake. Always trying out new recipes and getting creative in the kitchen.

3b. What are you studying/did you study in school?
I started in college getting my degree in biology in hopes of going to medical school. Stopped school to have my babies, but did work as an EMT for a while, and loved it. I am planning on going back to school in a couple of years, either for nursing, or to be a school teacher. Both sound fun!

4. How did you find/discover WCTH?
My awesome sister-in-law started watching, and told me to give it a try. I fell in love!! It’s such a fun show!

5. What is your favorite episode? Season?
So hard to choose…I love when Jack proposes to Elizabeth. I love all of season 1, I think it’s the one I’ve watched the most.

6. Who is your favorite character? Star of the show?
I love Jack and Elizabeth, but Rosemary is one of my favorites too! She brings fun and a little craziness to the show. I love her character!!

7. Why are you a Heartie? Why do you love the show?
I love how cute and fun it is. It’s so fun watching people fall in love! It’s also a show I can watch with my family and not worry about the content.

You’re a doll, Mrs. Cox! Thanks for being a willing lamb to the slaughter…ahem! As for the rest of you, thank you for tuning in. I hope the start to your week was a successful one. I’ll see you back here on Wednesday! We’re getting geared up for Lori Loughlin‘s Garage Sale Mystery month that starts this Sunday. This is Hooked Heartie, signing off!

HAPPY LORI LOUGHLIN WEEK! As some of you may or may not be aware, Saturday is Lori’s birthday! She’s turning…30…again. 😉 So this week, we’ll be “paying homage” to our dear, sweet Abigail. Now unfortunately, I was not able to get Lori’s own personal answers to the spotlight questions; she’s probably running like crazy with WCTH filming happening. But I’ve done some research, so let’s get to know the beautiful Ms. Loughlin.

  1. Where are you from? If you’re living elsewhere, where are you living now?
  • Lori was born in Queens, New York, and grew up in Hauppauge, Long Island. Now she lives in Los Angeles, California

  1. Tell us about your family.
  • Lori is married to Mossimo Giannulli. He created a popular clothing line called “Mossimo”. They eloped on Thanksgiving Day (which fell on November 27th,) in 1997. She has 2 beautiful daughters named Isabella Rose (20) and Olivia Jade (19). Both girls’ birthdays are in September, about a week and a half apart! She also has a stepson named Gianni, but I couldn’t find any details about him.

  1. What do you do for a living? What are your hobbies? What are you studying/did you study in school?
  • Well, that’s a little obvious, isn’t it? But here are a few details: Lori started off as a print model when she was 11. At 15, she was cast as Jody Travis in the soap opera “The Edge of Night”, and had that part for 3 years. Then at 18 or 19 (in 1987), she was cast as Becky in “Full House”. Something you may or may not know, she was only supposed to be on there for about 6 episodes. But fan response was so favorable, that she got a full-time role. That’s not surprising though, is it?

She was in the series “Summerland” and “90210”, plus lots of TV movies and spots before she landed on our beloved show.

  1. How did you find/discover WCTH?,
  • Also, a little obvious. But did you know that “When Calls the Heart” was only supposed to take Lori one day of filming??? That’s right! She was asked to fill the cameo role of Abigail Stanton in the WCTH movie in hopes that her name would help the movie get picked up as a series. The rest is history!

  1. What is your favorite episode? Season?
  • This, I have no idea. I do know she thinks the Season 5 finale is some of the best work they’ve done. I can also guess her favorite PART of filming: VANILLA COOKIES!!!

  1. Who is your favorite character? Star of the show?
  • I sure hope it’s Abigail!

  1. Why are you a Heartie? Why do you love the show?

I’ve gathered quotes from different interviews to answer this one.

  • “It’s quality television, it’s family television, it’s geared for everyone…it’s a lot like the television WE grew up on.”
  • “We…delve into issues that are relatable”
  • On Hearties themselves: “They’re loyal, they’re great, and they’ve really kept the show moving forward.”

  1. Anything else you enjoy, or anything you’d like to add?
  • She and Erin hit it off immediately, and have stayed really good friends. They’ve both said that their friendship is one of the best things to come of WCTH. No wonder we love to watch them!

What a great way to kick off Lori’s birthday week! We all hope she has a great week of filming, and a fun-filled day of celebrating on Saturday. Join me Wednesday for a Lori-centered #WonderWednesday!

Hello, hello, hello, all you lovely people!  Are you ready for the week?  Hope so, because it’s HERE!  Have you seen pictures and heard news about what’s going down for Season 6?  I was on a break from social media last week, (besides posting,) so I haven’t seen everything.  But I’ve been texted and messaged the REALLY important stuff.  Like the two new…gentlemen we’ll be seeing strolling down the sidewalks of Hope Valley?  We’ve got what I think will become “The 2 Mc’s”: Kevin McGarry (as the new Mountie Nathan Grant,) and Chris McNally, (as gambler Lucas Bouchard).  An actual gambler in Hope Valley???  I smell trouble; not sure we’re going to like him very much. But I’m glad there’s going to be another Mountie in town.  We need the presence of red serge in that “dear little hamlet”.  I don’t know what they’ll do with him story-wise, but he’s got the look.  And I’ve seen him in some other projects; he’s very good.  I think we’ll like him.

By the way, if you visited the blog on Friday, or if you’ve seen Friday’s post, you’ll know I “semi-interviewed” Loretta Walsh.  Well, she liked the tweet I posted with the blog link, so I guess she approved!  Hooray!  Thanks, Loretta!

One more thing I have to share before I get to the post, and this will make all you Heartie mothers out there SO proud!  Several days ago, my son, who’s not quite 2, pulled out on of my DVD cases of WCTH, and brought it to me.  I asked him if he wanted to watch it, and he nodded very enthusiastically.  Then just a few days ago, I had it on while I was doing stuff around the house.  He saw Elizabeth and Jack onscreen, went to the cabinet, dug through the movies, pulled out one of the WCTH cases, and started pointing back and forth between the TV and the case.  He’d recognized them and associated them enough to know which movie to pull out.  I was one pleased Heartie mama!

Well, let’s get this week off to a good start! For today’s #MeetYouMonday, we have a special guest, a fantastic person to get to know! May I introduce to you my husband’s sister, Michelle Clements. Little bit of trivia: Michelle knew about When Calls the Heart WAY before I did! When I first started watching, then told her about it, she said nonchalantly, “Oh yeah. I love that show.” I couldn’t believe she hadn’t shared it with ME! But I forgave her. 😉 So take it away, Michelle!

1. Where are you from? If you’re living elsewhere, where are you living now?
-I am from several places in Texas. Now, I live in Salt Lake City, Utah.

2. Tell us about your family.
-I have the best family. Oldest sibling of 7. Several of my siblings have married and brought wonderful spouses to be a part of our family. I have adorable nieces and nephews. I would say I am lucky in the family department. (Yeah, she HAS to say all that because her sister-in-law runs the blog. Just teasing, Michelle! Love you and thank you! 😀 )

3. What do you do for a living? What are your hobbies? What are you studying/did you study in school?
-Hobbies: I love to get outdoors and hike or kayak. I also enjoy staying indoors to catch up on TV shows. I enjoy traveling and seeing new places and painting to name a few. For my day to day work I am a Health Coach and a Benefit Advocate. In school, I studied Exercise Science.

4. How did you find/discover WCTH?
-Netflix, the first season had just been put on, and they were advertising it. I binge watched the first season, loved it so much and went on a search for the 2nd season. I started watching the 2nd season on YouTube in a terrible view, but dealt with it because I was thirsty for more. I finally checked to see if they had the season on Amazon and bought the season to finish it up. I have been enjoying it ever since.

5. What is your favorite episode? Season?
-Probably the first season when Jack and Elizabeth have their moment on the hillside. They are so cute together. I really loved the faith inspiring story lines of trusting in God. That is one of the main things that got me hooked.

6. Who is your favorite character? Star of the show?
-It is a toss-up between Elizabeth and Abigail. I really like the two of them. Doctor Shepherd is easy on the eyes though.

7. Why are you a Heartie? Why do you love the show?
-Because it is something that I know I will always feel comfortable watching without having to turn off or skip scenes. Also, as mentioned earlier, I really appreciate the faith component. Also watching the show introduced me to a new author that I was not aware of, and I have read the series.

8. Anything else you enjoy, or anything you’d like to add?
-I think it is hilarious that there are all these attractive single people in this town they live in the Wild West. Ha ha. That has never been my experience.

Well said, Michelle!  It does seem to be a hubbub for good-looking, unattached people.  We’ve got one featured married couple in the whole town!  And I didn’t know you’d read the series!

We learn something new everyday, don’t we, Hearties?  And sometimes, it’s in the strangest places…like a blog.  I hope you have a great week, full of productivity, health, and joy in little moments, as well as big.  See you soon!  Wednesday, to be exact!  Hooked Heartie, signing off!
