Well, I’m back! Couldn’t stay away, even if I tried. 🙂 But this is an important post; it’s a special #MeetYouMonday. I found out a few days ago that tomorrow is Kevin McGarry’s birthday. Even though we haven’t officially seen Mountie Nate on our TV screens, we hopefully will sooner rather than later, and he deserves a proper #Hearties birthday celebration. And birthdays #HookedHeartie style get a #MeetYouMonday introduction! Now unfortunately, I don’t know a whole lot about the man besides the facts that he is VERY attractive, and he’s a great actor. But I’ll tell you what I found out.

Kevin was born in Ontario, Canada in 1985, so he’ll be 34 tomorrow. He’s a whopping 6’3”, so it’s up in the air as to whether or not my husband could take him. 😉 He studied Creative Writing at George Brown College, emphasizing in Screen Writing. Gossip says he’s dating a lovely lady named Alexandra (Alex) Herzog, an actress and a dancer, and the two look very cute together. But I can’t verify it.

Something I definitely CAN verify, (because I heard it from his own mouth,) is he really can ride a horse. He actually can ride pretty well. How did he learn? On “Heartland”! If you’re a fan of that show, you know he plays Mitch, who is a cowboy through and through. He admits to lying in the audition process, saying, “Of course I can ride!” But he couldn’t. He learned fast, though, because “Heartland” is centered on horses. But that put him in a great position for taking the role of a Mountie.

As far as how he’s enjoying the show, that’s a little trickier to find out, but I’ve heard a few things. Apparently the cast was very welcoming, and he was glad that he came on with Chris and Kayla, because coming on was a little “intimidating”. But speaking of “intimidating”, it sounds as though he becomes so in his costume. He commented that putting on the red serge “makes you stand up straighter”. He also likes the amount of detail that goes into the set.

He’s also very relieved at the majority of the #Hearties reaction. He’s very glad that so many have reached out to him favorably, and he hopes Nathan “brings joy to them” since “the town needs a new Mountie”. I can only imagine the nerves he must have endured knowing he was coming on to replace such a beIoved character. Breathe, Kevin, breathe! We’re all anxious to meet Constable Grant. We were so disappointed it couldn’t happen this week, but hopefully it will happen soon. And happy birthday tomorrow!

Well, everyone, that’s it for me. This is Hooked Heartie, signing off! And I think we need this last part more than ever. May your heart let your hope blossom!

Even though Thanksgiving has passed, I’d like to finish out November naming blessings I have. Today, I’m grateful for people who have the thankless jobs: the police officers, the fire fighters, the garbage collectors, all those who don’t get their fair share of praise. Them, and the people brave enough to portray villains on a beloved TV series! HA HA!!!!

Alright all you Henry Gowen fans! This is YOUR week! HAPPY MARTIN CUMMINS WEEK TO YOU!!! I’ll come right out and admit that I’m not the biggest Henry fan, even though I have a great respect for Martin as an actor. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that me not liking Henry shows how good of an actor he is. Right? Right?…Okay, moving on! 🙂

Martin’s birthday is November 28, 1969, so he will turn 49 this Wednesday. Wow, the year before the big 5-0! I wonder what his plans are! Well, we definitely know a very time-consuming project that will tie him up professionally: filming Season 7 of When Calls the Heart! Because, of course, that’s going to happen, right Hearties?! Right!

He was born in North Delta, British Columbia, Canada. Don’t quote me on this, but I’m pretty sure he lives in Vancouver now. Like I said, don’t quote me on that because I could be wrong.

Martin was previously married to Brandy Ledford, whom you might recognize as Doyle from Kevin Sorbo’s series Andromeda. They were divorced in 2004. On July 12, 2013, Martin married Christine Wallace. With the two marriages, he has 4 children, 2 of which are beautiful twin girls. You may have seen a picture of Daniel Lissing holding one on each arm in the past; I understand he thought they were pretty adorable!

There’s actually a really hilarious story about children that I heard Martin tell from the Hearties Family Reunion #4. (No, I wasn’t there, but I did see a video. Ulli Jespersen, yours was my most recent point of reference, so thank you!) Martin talked about the fact that he always gets picked to be the scary guy/bad guy/killer. He said, “For whatever reason went I get on screen, it’s like, {hit table} [scary voice]: ‘That’s enough!’…So yeah, I don’t play a lot of good guys. And what’s up with that? I have 4 kids, and they are my LIFE!” And Kavan, bless his heart, he didn’t miss a beat! He busted out with, “But you HAD 9 kids!” SO FUNNY! But it’s true, he does make a really good bad guy!

So we know what he does professionally, but did you know he’s been a director as well? He’s directed 5 projects, including 1 episode of The Outer Limits, and 3 episodes of Poltergeist: The Legacy. And speaking of his professional work, have you ever heard him talk in an interview? His voice is COMPLETELY different from Gowen’s! He slips into a character/screen voice whenever he plays him. It definitely makes him feel more menacing! But hearing a light-hearted, easy-going voice coming out of that mouth…totally threw me for a loop the first time. I finally got used to it.

I haven’t heard him say what his favorite season is, but I have heard him say that he really likes the way his character is evolving. He also likes the way the writers have “caught on” to the chemistry between Lori and himself that they subtly play so we as the audience never know what’s going to happen next with them.

Last thing I’ll share is something I learned from the Season 5 bonus features. Martin got asked: “Who was your first celebrity crush?” He let out a huge guffaw, and laughed, “Jessica Tandy…I love the old ladies…what’s up with that?!”

Well, Hearties, that wraps up Day 1 of Martin Cummins Week. Martin isn’t on Twitter, and I’m not on Instagram, so if any of you who DO have it want to tell him to check out the posts this week, I would not mind a bit!

And a special thank you to Jennifer Stieger who took this picture of Martin at HFR#4 with Leah Hardwick and Tonya Guess on either side. Thanks, ladies! This is Hooked Heartie, signing off! May your hope let your heart blossom!

“Houston, we have a problem!” The world MUST be ending because the unthinkable just happened! My father-in-law, a man who has refused to even admit that he likes WCTH, consented to an interview! I am totally aghast! I asked him in the first place because he’s a veteran, and it was very important to me that I honor the day, and all of you who have ever been in the service of our country. That brings me to my gratitude moment for today: I am so grateful for all members of the Armed Forces, past and present, who sacrifice SO MUCH to keep our country free! I can’t even imagine what you and your families endure to ensure our safety.

Back to dear old Dad, I don’t know if he finally caved, or if he’s just got a soft spot for the woman who was the first to join his family. I’ll flatter myself, and go with the latter. 😀 So may I introduce to you, my father-in-law, William Clements Sr.

1. Where are you from? Where are you living now?
A: My father was in the Navy. I was born in Long Beach, CA. Then I lived in Texas, Alaska, Hawaii, and the Philippines. When my dad went to Vietnam, he bought a home for the family in Virginia, and that’s where we called home. Now I’m back in Texas.

2. Tell us about your family.
A: In December, I’ll have been married for 37 years. We have 7 children and 5 grandchildren. Michelle is a healthy coach; Will is an accountant for the state of Texas, and married to the lovely Kami, (yes, those are his words), and they have 4 of our grandchildren. Nathan is a project manager for AT&T, and married to the lovely Camila from Argentina; Seth is a nuclear engineer for the Navy, married to the lovely Héléne from Belgium, and they have the remaining of our grandchildren. Shannon is married to David, a software engineer; they live in Wisconsin, and build furniture together. Laura and Ben are both at BYU-Idaho, studying psychology and electrical engineering respectively; Ben also builds furniture as a side job/hobby.

3. What did you study in school? What do you do for a living?
A: I studied Business in college. Then I went into the Air Force. While I was there, I went back to school. I got a Masters in Education Administration, then I got my principal license, and my superintendent license. I’ve been both, but now I’m Director of Data Services for Del Valle ISD.

4. How did you discover WCTH?
A: My wife introduced me to it, and it became a favorite of mine. (YES! HE ADMITS IT!) I like to tease her, but I’ve become intertwined with it. I wish Jack could have stayed though.

5. What episode is your favorite? Season?
A: I don’t know! I’ve never been disappointed with an episode, except when Jack died. Favorite seasons are 3 and 4.

6. Who is your favorite character? Star of the show?
A: Elizabeth is adorable. And Lee: I like the way he puts up with his wife. He is so loving and understanding of her…different ways. Dan is my favorite actor on the show. I always think of him as a Mountie, no matter what he’s in. But they all do a fantastic job!

7. Why are you a Heartie? Why do you love the show?
A: It’s a first-class show, and it has good Christian values. Most importantly, some of the people I love most love the show, so I love it to. And that includes you! (You’re all witnesses!)

8. As it is November, what is something you’re thankful for?
A: I’m grateful for the gospel of Jesus Christ, the eternal nature of families, and that we have the opportunity to live with our Father in Heaven again someday.

9. How long were you in the Air Force? What is the most valuable lesson you learned while you were there?
A: You can accomplish anything, despite the obstacles, or lack of equipment.

Thanks, Dad! You’re a gem! Happy Veterans Day to all of you! And I hope you all enjoyed Christmas in Love this past weekend. 😉 This is Hooked Heartie, signing off! May your heart let your hope blossom!

Good Monday morning, Hearties! How is everybody? I’m watching my recording of Marrying Father Christmas as I’m writing this, so I’m GREAT! 😀 Have you watched it yet? I can’t tell you about the entire movie yet, since I haven’t finished it, but loving it so far! I’m not going to comment anymore though, because SPOILER ALERT! Then I wouldn’t have anything to talk about on Wednesday!

So, it’s time to name another one of my blessings. Today I’m very grateful for my husband. Our life together isn’t perfect, but it’s a heck of a good one. He’s patient and kind, and so very supportive. I mean, this blog was HIS idea, as was the book on which I’m currently working. He’s pretty special!

I know someone else who sure thinks a lot of their spouse, and that’s our #MeetYouMonday for today, Mr. Michael Hopper. Wow, he’s our THIRD male Heartie to be spotlighted! We’re on a role! So I’m going to let him take over, and we can get to know him. From what I knoe so far, he seems pretty terrific! And since it’s Thanksgiving time, I asked him to add something he’s thankful for. Here he is!

1. Where are you from? If you’re living elsewhere, where are you living now?

A: I am from Danville, VA, a small little town near the border of North Carolina. I have been here for my entire 25 years and love living here.

2. Tell us about your family.

A: I am happily and wonderfully married to my best friend and beautiful wife of 5 years. We have known each other for 8. She moved from Alaska to attend a small town college here to get her degree in biomedical sciences. We met at a July 4 picnic playing volleyball. Something told me she was different. Her smile. Her simple yet elegant beauty radiating from within. I knew she was my forever. We have a 3-year-old son, who has as much energy as a dog on caffeine. Lol We love it, and love him so much and we are so blessed and thank Jesus for blessing him with us. Hopefully in the future, we will be able to add baby #2.

3. What do you do for a living? What are your hobbies? What are you studying/did you study in school?

A: Currently I am a route driver for a vending company. I love the hours because I can work my accounts to where I can be off around 11 and have more family time, which I love. I love to create music scores, exercise, and write my book. I studied Business Management when I was in school. I took a 2-year program to achieve my associates, which I have just a couple of more classes and I shall be finished.

4. How did you find/discover WCTH?

A: My wife is the reason I have come to love and enjoy WCTH. She has been a big fan since they came out. I brushed it off, thinking that it was another one of those over-the-top romances, a chick flick for instance. But I sat down one evening, and just watched. And immediately I was captivated by the storylines, characters, and the bond that Elizabeth and Jack had. This show was not overdoing the romance. Everything and everyone were and are so perfectly balanced.

5. What is your favorite episode? Season?

A: That is a hard question because I love them all!! But if I had to choose….season would be season 3 because it was a growing season for almost every character, especially Jack and Elizabeth. I loved how they were growing closer together and their love was taking deep roots and solidifying their love. Episode probably would have to be the end of season 3 with Rosemary and Lee’s wedding. The sacrifice that the whole town made and how they saved the miners and everyone pitched in. I loved how it showed the power of family and community.

6. Who is your favorite character? Star of the show?

A: Another hard one! Lol It would have to be Elizabeth. Her heart and her compassion is something that I pray for in myself. To be able to ask the right questions at the right time, to persevere when all seems lost, to have patience when the situation is begging for an outburst. How she never gives up hope. Her character really embodies the verse found in Romans 5:3-5 of how perseverance brings forth character, and character brings forth hope.

7. Why are you a Heartie? Why do you love the show?

A: I am a Heartie because WCTH is a show that will never be replaced or replicated. Everything and everyone in it connects with my heart profoundly. Plus this is the best and most exciting fan base ever and that I have been a part of. The reason I love the show is because WCTH’s delivers a wholesome, honorable, respectable, and overall amazing show on every level. It connects with you deeply. Nothing is shallow. No character or story is a meaningless part of the script. Everything and everyone has depth and intricacy. And I see Jack and Elizabeth in my wife and I. How we interact with one another and how we love each other reminds me so much of Jack and Elizabeth.
8. Anything else you enjoy, or anything you’d like to add?

A: I enjoy watching sports with my family and doing a lot of spontaneous and absolute fun things like finding new nature trails to hike/walk on. I would like to add one more thing on WCTH….it is the best show of all time. Everyone I deem should see it. The morals and honor that is displayed is remarkable and unmatched. Truly a classic.

*Bonus Question: What are you thankful for?

A: Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and I have so much to be thankful for. Every day is thanksgiving. I am so thankful for my Jesus and his every day grace he extends and graciously showers me with. Apart from him I can do nothing. I am so blessed to have such an amazing, beautiful, gentle, and cherished wife. None compare to her. She is one of kind. Words cannot do her justice. So thankful I can spend forever with my best friend. I am thankful for my best bud and friend, Uriah my son. I love that he is part of our world and I can get to watch him grow and let his personality take face. He is a heritage and reward for my wife and I. Thankful for my big family. I am just so thankful I could write this. Thankful for good wholesome shows like WCTH.

Thank you so much Michael! You truly show us the spirit of the season! Okay everybody, I hope you have a marvelous day today, and live it to the fullest like this young man! I will see you on Wednesday. I have now finished a certain film…and that’s all I’m saying. Bye bye now! This is Hooked Heartie, signing off! May your heart let your hope blossom!
