Good afternoon, Hearties! How was your weekend? Mine was nutty! My entire family, (except Jack, of course,) got haircuts, then we got my oldest’s school supplies, then went to the library, then went home to do more of that laundry I spoke about on Wednesday…and that was just Saturday! 😀

I bet several of you are in the same boat, with the first day of school looming closer and closer. In fact, we’re going to get to know someone today who IS in that boat.

And guess what! I actually KNOW this person, and she’s not a member of my family! GASP! In fact, other than some of those family members, this lady’s known me longer than anyone spotlighted on here! She’s ashamed to admit association, but I’m letting the cat out of the bag! Only kidding, Linds! Lindsey Cox re tty special! We had plans to be roommates the next year, but SHE had to go and get MARRIED…to a great guy named Quinn of whom I highly approved; I even helped him propose! 🙂

So we both moved on with our lives, and lost track of each other. Thanks to social media, we found one another a few years ago, and totally reconnected! It was as if no time had passed at all! Then when I started the blog, Lindsey commented on one of my first posts, and that’s how I found out she’s a Heartie. Always knew I liked her! Then to make things better, she filled in a suddenly vacant spot on my Camp Hearties team (a virtual scavenger hunt summer camp for fans,) and our team went on to win! Shout out to Sarah for being the best captain EVER since the rest of us had absolutely no idea what we were doing!

I better let Lindsey tell you the rest about herself, or she’ll probably never speak to me again! You’re up, girlfriend!

1. Where are you from?
I was born in Oakland, California, but have lived kind of everywhere. My dad was in the military, and enjoyed moving around. My married life has been similar to my childhood, as we have lived in many places as well. We now call Washington our permanent home! It’s beautiful, and I get the best of everything: ocean, mountains, and lots of greenery.

2. Tell us about your family.
I love to talk about my family. I married my college sweetheart, Quinn. We’ve been married now for 14 years…sheesh, I’m getting old! Together we four beautiful children: 3 boys and a girl mixed in the middle. We have so many fun adventures together like dance parties, hiking, exploring new places, and making life fun. It’s crazy at times, but we love it!

3a. What are your hobbies?
I like to be creative, and turn old things into something new. My motto is, “A little sand and paint can fix anything!” I love to take pictures! It’s one of my passions. I also love to cook and bake. Always trying out new recipes and getting creative in the kitchen.

3b. What are you studying/did you study in school?
I started in college getting my degree in biology in hopes of going to medical school. Stopped school to have my babies, but did work as an EMT for a while, and loved it. I am planning on going back to school in a couple of years, either for nursing, or to be a school teacher. Both sound fun!

4. How did you find/discover WCTH?
My awesome sister-in-law started watching, and told me to give it a try. I fell in love!! It’s such a fun show!

5. What is your favorite episode? Season?
So hard to choose…I love when Jack proposes to Elizabeth. I love all of season 1, I think it’s the one I’ve watched the most.

6. Who is your favorite character? Star of the show?
I love Jack and Elizabeth, but Rosemary is one of my favorites too! She brings fun and a little craziness to the show. I love her character!!

7. Why are you a Heartie? Why do you love the show?
I love how cute and fun it is. It’s so fun watching people fall in love! It’s also a show I can watch with my family and not worry about the content.

You’re a doll, Mrs. Cox! Thanks for being a willing lamb to the slaughter…ahem! As for the rest of you, thank you for tuning in. I hope the start to your week was a successful one. I’ll see you back here on Wednesday! We’re getting geared up for Lori Loughlin‘s Garage Sale Mystery month that starts this Sunday. This is Hooked Heartie, signing off!

Happy Friyay! And happy birthday to Lori tomorrow! In honor of that, I give you an Abigail #FlashbackFriday. The hardest part was picking one out of SO many amazing Abigail moments! But I finally settled on going all the way back to Season 1: “Honey!” This is one of the first, if not THE first sage and wise motherly advice Abigail gives to Jack, and they really begin to connect.

I love how it starts: it’s a little thing, but I think it illustrative of Jack’s thoughtfulness. He calls out to “Mrs. Stanton” so he doesn’t startle her, then delivers his warning to lock the door and windows; but you know there’s more. Like any mother figure, she senses just that, and inquires. I thought it so funny when Jack complains, “Any advice on getting a woman to listen to me?” Classic moment watching Abigail try not to laugh, and politely asking if they’re talking about Elizabeth, even though she KNOWS they are.

She speaks very plainly and soundly. It’s good advice for any man: “…make sure you’re saying something important.” Being a man on a mission, Jack doesn’t quite take the hint. He just spouts off about Elizabeth hanging around Billy Hamilton. We all know he’s jealous, but at least he’s TRYING to be professional. He IS within his rights. Billy is “a man of low character,” and Jack was assigned to protect her. But Abigail knows that’s not the only reason, so she switches trains of thought.

As a result, we get the favorite line, those wise old words: “Well, they say you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.” Jack still balks at this idea, certain Abigail is trying to entice him to play some kind of game. And then, my personal favorite part: Abigail shushes Jack’s tirade, and stoically repeats, “Honey.” Then in true Jack fashion, he humbly mumbles, “Yes, ma’am.” Actually that’s how almost EVERYONE acts around Abigail. 😀

Here’s a little fun tidbit about this moment: there’s a deleted section of the scene. I saw it when I watched the trailer for the Season 1 premiere some months ago. Abigail straight out asks Jack if he’s attracted to Elizabeth. Jack gets testy, and protests, “Why does everyone keep saying that.” Abigail, with a twinkle in her eye, calmly responds, “Perhaps because you’re giving them cause.” I know they cut it for pacing and stretching out the story, but it was so perfect, I wish they would have included it. It further demonstrates Abigail’s wisdom, not to mention her wonderful woman’s intuition that Jack so desperately needs.

Well, Hearties, that about does it! Don’t forget to send Lori a very happy birthday wish tomorrow, and I’ll see you next week for more Hooked Heartie Magic. And for your laughing pleasure, I give you a picture of my daughter’s peanut butter and honey sandwich with flies all over it. 😀

Hello, Hearties…and Postables. How is everybody? Sorry again about yesterday. I would say you wouldn’t believe the kind of day I had, but lots of you DO know exactly what it’s like. So here is what would have been yesterday’s #WonderWednesday.

As you know, we’re in the middle of Lori Loughlin‘s birthday week, (her birthday’s on Saturday,) so this is the Hooked Heartie’s first ever “Lori Loughlin Week”. Monday, we got to know a little about Lori’s life and her family. Today, being #WonderWednesday, we’re discussing a different project of hers. Which one? Well, in the spirit of Christmas in July, I’m reviewing 2016’s “Every Christmas has a Story,” which also stars Colin Ferguson. It also happens to be Lori’s daughter’s (Isabella) first acting job. Quality mother/daughter time! As far as other stars go: Blair Penner, (Faith’s former fiancé,) plays Darren, one of Kate’s coworkers; Bruce Harwood plays Mayor in both arenas; and then there’s Kevin O’Grady. He played the slightly spacey lawyer for Gowan, Archie, on WCTH; and here, he’s Doug, the cameraman. But if you’re a TRUE Lori and Hallmark fan, you’ll recognize him as Frank, the police detective from Garage Sale Mysteries. Lori must really love working with him. For the Postables, there’s Karen Holness, Hattie on SSD: Higher Ground; here she’s Wendy, the bubbly makeup artist.

While I’m at makeup, I just want to point out something I think was done very well. We all know it takes lots of makeup to make actors show up on camera; not as much as theatre, but a lot nonetheless. I really like how Kate isn’t made up all the time. She doesn’t wake up in full makeup, and her face looks scrubbed clean when she’s at home relaxing, even though we know makeup is there. And when she arrives at work, Wendy actually did a makeup job on her, and there’s a clear difference. Just a detail a former theatre major noticed. 😀

One thing I’m adamant about as an actress is intonation; I used to drill this with my students a lot back when I was teaching. Lori does this really well in 2 scenes with her daughter. She says the exact same words, but you know the meaning is completely different because of her tone. First Mia (Isabella) is complimenting Kate about what a great reporter she is, and that she’s Mia’s inspiration to become a journalist. Kate gives a very heartfelt, “Thank you, Mia!” Mia then blurts out that she doesn’t think it was very smart admitting to not liking Christmas on the air. Kate’s smile instantly drops, and she sarcastically retorts, “Thank you, Mia.” On the script, it’s the exact same words. It’s up to the actor to bring the words to life, AND diversify them as well. Good job, Lori!

A really interesting twist to this “story”, (pun intended), is Lori doesn’t play her typical sunny character. She plays Katherine “Kate” Harper, a morning news show host who DOESN’T LIKE CHRISTMAS. But I really like the way Lori portrayed her. She’s not a mean or particularly grumpy person; she’s just doesn’t care for the holiday. It proves you can dislike Christmas, and still be a good person; although I personally don’t know how that works. 😉 But more than that, Kate has a self-discovery that I find quite profound. She says, “It’s not that I didn’t like Christmas; I didn’t know Christmas.” How true is that simple statement? When we don’t know something, we’re immediately prone to dislike it; like children with new foods. Good lesson of which we should all be reminded once in a while.

That does beg the question though: Why didn’t she just graciously accept the silly ornament??? If you’re unfamiliar with the film, Kate gets into a professional scrape when the audio is accidentally left on the air after her show, and she’s overheard saying she doesn’t like Christmas…right before she accidentally bumps her guest, and he topples into a Christmas tree. She then has to prove to her audience that she can rediscover her holiday spirit by traveling to the “biggest little Christmas town in the country”, and partaking of the festivities. So I have to ask again: as a famous TV personality, why didn’t she just accept the ornament, then pass it off to someone else? Well, we wouldn’t have a movie if she hadn’t, but it’s food for thought.

I enjoyed seeing Colin in this film too. I recently discovered the show “Eureka”, of which he’s the star; so it was fun seeing him in this movie again now that I’m more familiar with him. And guess what! His name is JACK! Not only is that significant for Hearties, but his name was Jack in Eureka too! My husband and I have noticed that almost every Hallmark show or movie has a Jack in there somewhere. Is it a writer’s husband, or something?

Anyway, he’s got a great character: humors a lot of people, handles Kate, and REALLY knows her! He reminds her of the past they had in college, and says little things like, “You complain when your chardonnay is too cold,” to illustrate their history without being too obvious.  He also runs her show smoothly as it’s producer, and really LIVES in the moment when people are talking to him. My favorite example of this is when Kate and Jack are talking to Vernon Hollister about why he no longer honors the tradition of sending the town a Christmas tree for the square. When Vernon talks about his past, you’ve got to watch Colin’s face. He makes Jack react to every part of the story. When Vernon talks about falling in love with his wife, Jack smiles so wide as if he’s experiencing those feelings for the first time too. Then when Vernon reaches the part about losing his wife in an accident, Jack has a face filled with perfect empathy and despair; personally, I think it’s because he knows what it’s like to lose Kate, not to death, but out of his life.

Once again, there’s SO MUCH I could say about this movie, but I better call it a night. I’ll see you tomorrow for the Lori Loughlin edition of #FlashbackFriday. Ta ta!

Another CRAZY day at Kami’s house! Kids crying simultaneously, pulling clothes out of storage and washing them to switch my little girl’s wardrobe a size higher, company coming, a lecture series to attend…etc. You ladies get it, I know! So thanks for understanding, and I’ll amaze you with my brilliance tomorrow. 😀 Ha ha!

HAPPY LORI LOUGHLIN WEEK! As some of you may or may not be aware, Saturday is Lori’s birthday! She’s turning…30…again. 😉 So this week, we’ll be “paying homage” to our dear, sweet Abigail. Now unfortunately, I was not able to get Lori’s own personal answers to the spotlight questions; she’s probably running like crazy with WCTH filming happening. But I’ve done some research, so let’s get to know the beautiful Ms. Loughlin.

  1. Where are you from? If you’re living elsewhere, where are you living now?
  • Lori was born in Queens, New York, and grew up in Hauppauge, Long Island. Now she lives in Los Angeles, California

  1. Tell us about your family.
  • Lori is married to Mossimo Giannulli. He created a popular clothing line called “Mossimo”. They eloped on Thanksgiving Day (which fell on November 27th,) in 1997. She has 2 beautiful daughters named Isabella Rose (20) and Olivia Jade (19). Both girls’ birthdays are in September, about a week and a half apart! She also has a stepson named Gianni, but I couldn’t find any details about him.

  1. What do you do for a living? What are your hobbies? What are you studying/did you study in school?
  • Well, that’s a little obvious, isn’t it? But here are a few details: Lori started off as a print model when she was 11. At 15, she was cast as Jody Travis in the soap opera “The Edge of Night”, and had that part for 3 years. Then at 18 or 19 (in 1987), she was cast as Becky in “Full House”. Something you may or may not know, she was only supposed to be on there for about 6 episodes. But fan response was so favorable, that she got a full-time role. That’s not surprising though, is it?

She was in the series “Summerland” and “90210”, plus lots of TV movies and spots before she landed on our beloved show.

  1. How did you find/discover WCTH?,
  • Also, a little obvious. But did you know that “When Calls the Heart” was only supposed to take Lori one day of filming??? That’s right! She was asked to fill the cameo role of Abigail Stanton in the WCTH movie in hopes that her name would help the movie get picked up as a series. The rest is history!

  1. What is your favorite episode? Season?
  • This, I have no idea. I do know she thinks the Season 5 finale is some of the best work they’ve done. I can also guess her favorite PART of filming: VANILLA COOKIES!!!

  1. Who is your favorite character? Star of the show?
  • I sure hope it’s Abigail!

  1. Why are you a Heartie? Why do you love the show?

I’ve gathered quotes from different interviews to answer this one.

  • “It’s quality television, it’s family television, it’s geared for everyone…it’s a lot like the television WE grew up on.”
  • “We…delve into issues that are relatable”
  • On Hearties themselves: “They’re loyal, they’re great, and they’ve really kept the show moving forward.”

  1. Anything else you enjoy, or anything you’d like to add?
  • She and Erin hit it off immediately, and have stayed really good friends. They’ve both said that their friendship is one of the best things to come of WCTH. No wonder we love to watch them!

What a great way to kick off Lori’s birthday week! We all hope she has a great week of filming, and a fun-filled day of celebrating on Saturday. Join me Wednesday for a Lori-centered #WonderWednesday!
